Home Procedures Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a test that allows your doctor to look at the inner lining of your large intestine (rectum and colon). The Best Colonoscopy Procedure is an endoscopic examination of the entire large or colon. Colonoscopy allows any pre-cancerous colon polyps to be removed immediately for tissue examination.

Also, biopsies of abnormal looking areas inside the colon can be taken during the colonoscopy. Colonoscopies are recommended beginning at age 50, as a screening for colorectal cancer.

A colonoscopy may be recommended for abdominal pain, chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea and rectal bleeding.

With periodic checkups and screening is the best way to find colorectal cancer early, because it looks for signs of cancer in people who do not have any symptoms. In many cases, these tests can find colorectal cancers at an early stage and greatly improve treatment outcomes.

Colonoscopy takes an average of 15 – 30 minutes to complete.

  • Abdominal cramps and feeling bloated which normally wears off in about one (1) day.
  • Loose stools due to the after effects of bowel preparation for one (1) to two (2) days; minor incontinence of stool may occasionally occur.
  • Soft diet is recommended after the scope. If it is well tolerated, you can resume your normal diet.

Colonoscopy is a safe procedure and complications rarely occur during the procedure. Possible risks account only for about 0.1% and mostly in critical conditions only.
